Coroner
When
a death is unexpected and the cause of death is unclear, or when
the death is of a suspicious nature, an accident or industrial
disease, the Coroner is automatically involved.
The
Coroners involvement, in most cases, is a formality and
an examination would normally be made to ascertain the cause of
death.
In
circumstances where the Coroner feels the death is not due to
natural causes or is a result of an industrial disease, a formal
inquest may be held. If this is the case, you will be kept informed
by the Coroner's Officer of the necessary procedures.
The
death cannot be registered
until after the Coroner has issued the necessary Death Certificate
direct to the Registrar concerned.
Burial
The death must be registered and the Green
Certificate obtained before the funeral can take place.
If there is an inquest, a Burial Order
will be given to the Funeral Director from the Coroner.
Cremation
The Coroner provides the Funeral Director with the necessary form
for the funeral to take place. The Coroner will also inform you
of when you can register the death.
Coroner's
Inquest
In these cases it is not necessary to register the death. This
is done automatically through the Coroner.
